Parish Bookkeeper - St. Joseph’s Parish – Newport, VIC
Part-Time | 4 hours per week | Flexible schedule (Tuesday preferred)

St. Joseph’s Parish is a welcoming and vibrant Catholic community in Melbourne’s Inner West, encompassing Sacred Heart, Newport, and St. Margaret Mary’s, Spotswood. We are currently seeking a qualified and values-driven Parish Bookkeeper to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who combines financial acumen with a heart for service.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based at the Parish Office on Newcastle Street, Newport, this part-time role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. You will work closely with the Parish Priest, Parish Secretary, volunteers, and other stakeholders to manage the financial operations of the parish.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Bank weekly parish donations and oversee donation records
  • Process and remit payments, manage invoices and receipts
  • Perform end-to-end Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
  • Record all transactions using Xero accounting software
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy of financial records
  • Maintain and manage the PACEM system (training can be provided)
  • Administer the Parish Thanksgiving/Stewardship Program
  • Coordinate and support volunteers responsible for counting weekly donations
  • Provide financial and payroll support as directed by the Parish Priest or Parish Accountant
  • Attend meetings and complete other finance-related tasks as required

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Xero
  • Experience in bookkeeping, including managing A/P and A/R
  • Familiarity with PACEM (desirable; training can be provided)
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Working with Children Check
  • Current Police Check
  • Valid Driver Licence
