This year’s theme for World Mission Sunday (20 October) is ‘Go and invite everyone to the banquet,’ reflecting the inclusive nature of the Church’s mission of sharing God’s love.
As part of its celebrations for World Mission Month, Catholic Mission is thrilled to welcome Br Andrew Tran Le Phuong SDB to Australia as a way of highlighting the life-changing work of missionaries around the globe.
Br Andrew leads life-changing projects such as the House of Mercy and the Don Bosco Caring Centre, which bring much-needed education, practical care and a message of hope to those living at the margins of society.
As he seeks to empower young people through education and to provide health access to all, Br Andrew’s missionary work in Mongolia brings hope where it is most needed and resonates powerfully with the theme of World Mission Sunday.
As a Salesian missionary in Mongolia, Br Andrew leads life-changing projects such as the House of Mercy and the Don Bosco Caring Centre, which bring much-needed education, practical care and a message of hope to those living at the margins of society.
Chuluunbaatar’s is one of the many lives changed through Br Andrew’s work. After a serious injury left him facing homelessness, he found shelter at the House of Mercy, where he received warm meals, medical support and emotional care, helping him to rebuild his life. Instead of the uncertainty and dread that marked his life when he was homeless, Chuluunbaatar now has a new sense of purpose and hope. ‘I know what I will do today and tomorrow. It gives me a very nice hope,’ he says.
To celebrate this day of global solidarity, Catholic Mission has drawn on its worldwide network of Pontifical Mission Societies to launch a video featuring missionaries from more than 40 countries as they reflect on the theme of World Mission Sunday in different languages, highlighting the diversity and unity of the global Church and its commitment to being inclusive and welcoming to all.
On World Mission Sunday, Catholic Mission is encouraging everyone to support missionaries like Br Andrew through their prayers, material offerings and active participation in the Church’s mission to share the love of God with all.
