This past year at CatholicCare Victoria we’ve supported 4,194 people through our Emergency Relief program*, and 70.6% of the financial assistance provided was for access to food. There are hundreds of thousands of people living in poverty across Victoria, many of whom are struggling to put a meal on the table for themselves and their children.

There are also many others who are struggling to afford food for other reasons – due to family violence, homelessness, and unemployment to name a few.

Last year with the help of our donors and supporters, we delivered 500 food hampers to vulnerable Victorians who were struggling to put a meal on the table, and this year we are proud to say we will be doing the same.

Something as simple as a food hamper not only ensures there’s food on the table this Christmas, but it’s making Christmas brighter for families and individuals who can’t afford to celebrate this season as many of us do – with a special meal for the family.

This week our team of helpers have been packing the 500 food hampers which will be distributed across Victoria for vulnerable families and individuals.

The foods included within the hampers range from pantone, pasta, baked beans, breakfast cereal, tea, chocolate, pancake mix, biscuits, popcorn, as well as a modified hamper better suited for refugees which includes dates, raisins and tea biscuits.

We would like to say thank you to Rinoldi Pasta in Mulgrave, New Colonial Cookie Company in Lilydale, Food Factory Sales in Bayswater, and Ital Food Group in Campbellfield for their generous support in providing the hamper food items as a donation and/or at discounted rates.

We also thank the many people who have donated and who continue to donate to our CatholicCare Victoria Giving Tree Appeal, enabling us to create these hampers and also provide essential services for mental health and financial aid for people in need.

Let's make this Christmas brighter together!
