Newman College is looking for two dedicated Permanent, Part-Time Chefs to join our vibrant catering team.

📍 Location: Newman College, Parkville

⏰ Shifts Available:

  • Chef 1 (Mid-Week): Monday to Thursday, 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Chef 2 (Weekend): Friday to Sunday, 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM

Please note: Rosters may vary at times.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a supportive environment where we prioritise providing high-quality, nutritious, and delicious meals for our student residents. As a Chef, you will play a key role in ensuring that all meals are prepared and served to high standards, catering to various dietary needs, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals in compliance with food preparation and cooking standards.
  • Present and serve special diets, ensuring meals are nutritious, palatable, and in line with established recipes and menus.
  • Handle food safely and in compliance with the Newman College Food Safety Plan and regulations.
  • Ensure food is prepared in suitable quantities and with the correct consistency for residents’ consumption.
  • Cater to special dietary requirements (e.g., diabetic, high/low protein, gluten-free, coeliac).
  • Monitor and record food wastage to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of meals, maintaining the highest quality.
  • Transport food safely and hygienically across the premises.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen as per cleaning schedules, promptly reporting any issues.
  • Foster teamwork through clear communication, organisation, and shared duties.
  • Supervise and direct kitchen personnel in their duties, ensuring a high standard of performance.

About you:

  • You have proven experience as a chef, ideally in a similar setting.
  • You possess a strong knowledge of food safety standards and procedures.
  • You are experienced in preparing special diets and catering to diverse dietary requirements.
  • You pride yourself on your ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
  • You have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • You have strong communication skills and enjoy collaborating with team members.
  • You have the ability to maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional attire.
