This year is the centenary of St Augustine’s Church and as such, the parish has planned a number of celebrations to mark the occasion. This concert is close to the date of the laying of the foundation stone of St Augustine’s Church, and focuses on liturgical music from over the last 100 years. This is a free concert and will feature performances by the Melbourne Vocal Ensemble and more. All are welcome!

About St Augustine's, Yarraville

The original parishioners in Yarraville were migrants mostly from European countries, such as Italy and Ireland. The original church was a wooden building and served the spiritual needs of locals each Sunday and on week days the educational needs of over 200 children. The number of parishioners grew quickly and by the 1920s, the wooden church was filled to capacity with 4 masses. As such, plans were made for a brick Church in Somerville Road next to the presbytery in 1924. The new brick church building was blessed and opened by Archbishop Daniel Mannix, D.D. in 1925.
