In this online lecture brought to you by ACU and in collaboration with Pontifico Instituto di Studi di Arabi e d'Islamistica, Professor Wilhelmus Valkenberg will argue from a close reading that the Qur’an employs a rejection of tradition-based exclusivism and relies on the argument that God is ever able to bestow God’s bounty on whomever God wants. In this, Islam, like Judaism and Christianity, can be understood as wrestling with the combination of commitment and openness, conviction and humility as conditions for interreligious dialogue and comparative theology.
