Staff of Catholic Theological College (CTC), as well as students and researchers, are invited to attend this online seminar, to be presented by Rev Dr Daniel Szewe OMI, a Catholic priest in the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
CS Lewis—an accomplished English literature academic, theologian and creator of Narnia—was described in his day as the best-read man in England. JRR Tolkien—a respected philologist, major Old and Middle English scholar and expert on Anglo-Saxon studies—was the creator of Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. As dons at Oxford, Lewis, an atheist convert to Anglicanism, and Tolkien, an Anglican convert to Catholicism, formed a friendship that flourished despite their differences. Through their fantasy books grounded in Christianity, they have drawn readers of various religious, philosophical and cultural positions into the secondary worlds they created.
