All are welcome to attend the Annual Dinner of the Catholic Women’s League of Victoria and Wagga Wagga Inc. Guest speaker Fiona Power, Curator or the Mary Glowrey Museum, will speak on ‘Fr William Lockington SJ: Know yourself and the heritage that is yours’.
William Lockington (1871–1948) was a prominent Catholic priest within the Jesuit and wider Australian community in the first decades of the 20th century. He founded the Catholic Women’s Social Guild in Melbourne, now the Catholic Women’s League of Victoria and Wagga Wagga. Five years later, the Victorian town of Lockington was named after him.
Fr Lockington advised several leaders within the Catholic community, including Dr Sr Mary Glowrey, the Guild’s first general president and one of just two Australians currently being officially considered for sainthood.
This public event is part of the Catholic Women’s League of Victoria and Wagga Wagga 2023 Conference. To find out more about the League, visit www.cwlvicww.org.au.
