Making time for God

Life can be full of distractions from the things that really matter. Prayer is an antidote to this—a tried and tested way to shift our focus from ourselves and to put things in perspective, to make time for God.

In his latest video message, Archbishop Peter A Comensoli reflects on how, in this Year of Prayer, we might punctuate our days with praise by embracing one of the great prayers of the Catholic tradition, the Glory Be.

In this week’s stories, we also hear from Deacon Ferdinand Correya, who was recently ordained to the permanent diaconate. He speaks about his hopes for his ministry and about the ways permanent deacons can help people bring their focus back to God in the midst of busy lives.

And as we prepare to observe two Sea Sundays this year, on 21 and 28 July, Stella Maris encourages us to support them in their important work with the seafarers who visit our shores, caring for them in practical ways and helping them find time for God when they are far from home.

Archbishop Comensoli: praying the Glory Be
To help us enter more deeply into this Year of Prayer—and following on from his video reflections on the Our Father and the Hail Mary—Archbishop Peter A Comensoli has offered some reflections on the Glory Be, the short but powerful prayer of praise to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, that punctuates so much of our prayer life in the Catholic tradition.
Deacon Ferdinand Correya, building relationship with God
Broad smiles and a spirit of great joy filled St Patrick’s Cathedral on the morning of Saturday 15 June as Archbishop Peter A Comensoli ordained Deacon Ferdinand Correya to the ministry of the permanent diaconate—a ministry he will exercise in the partnered parishes of St Gabriel and St Stephen of Hungary, Reservoir and Reservoir East, and St Raphael, Preston West, alongside his teaching work and family life.
Catholics asked to offer Stella support for seafarers
This year, Catholics around Australia are being asked to reflect on and support seafarers over two Sea Sundays, 21 and 28 July, giving Catholics an even greater opportunity to pray for and support seafarers. ‘Without seafarers, we would not have most of the items we rely on for daily living,’ Stella Maris chairman Ray Collins said. ‘They work tirelessly to bring into our ports products that sustain us and our economy.’

Catholic Mission and the Don Bosco Caring Center: providing a kind hand to homeless children in Ulaanbaatar
Missionaries worldwide answer the call to give of themselves and to provide a kind hand to those most in need. The Don Bosco Caring Center in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia—a partner ministry of Catholic Mission—is a great example of this, offering a safe and loving home to children left to fend for themselves on the streets of the world’s coldest capital.
‘When you’re ready, God’s ready for you as well. God is always there for you, but we need to take the first step, despite our busy schedules.’
