We all need help—help to overcome the challenges we might face in life, help to make sense of the world, help to find our true purpose. Accepting our need for help and being willing to receive it are signs of true wisdom and humility. But where do we look for the help we need?

Yesterday was the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, and this Saturday Catholics around the country are invited to join in a Nationwide Rosary, an initiative that was launched last year by two women who are passionate about promoting the power of the Rosary. One of them, Yvette Kaminski, talks with us about the crucial help that praying the Rosary can provide.

This week is also National Palliative Care Week. VMCH share with us the moving story of Liz and Ian Tantau, and of Ian’s last weeks at O'Neill House, where the sensitive and specialised palliative care he received was as much about helping him to live his ‘best life possible’ as it was about helping him to die well.

This year the partnership parishes of Northcote and Thornbury, in Melbourne’s inner north, mark 100 years since the foundation of St Mary’s Thornbury. As well as bringing parishioners together in a spirit of joy and thanksgiving, a year-long series of celebrations has been providing opportunities to reach out to the broader community with the joy of the Gospel.

As we approach the feast of Pentecost this Sunday, may we be helped and guided by the Holy Spirit, who kindles the fire of God’s love in us and renews the face of the earth.

Fruits of the rosary ‘essential’ for our times, says founder of Nationwide Rosary
On Saturday 27 May, Catholics around the country are being invited to join in the second annual Australian Nationwide Rosary to Our Lady Help of Christians. Yvette Kaminski, one of the women behind this initiative, speaks to us about the fruits of the Rosary and how they can help us face the challenges of today.
A ‘year of celebrations’ brings people together in Northcote and Thornbury
This year, the partnership parishes of Northcote and Thornbury are marking 100 years since the foundation of St Mary’s Parish Thornbury. This significant milestone has inspired a year of celebrations aimed at reaching out to the local community and bringing people together in a spirit of joy and thanksgiving.
Palliative care—living and dying well
Written by: VMCH
To mark National Palliative Care Week (21–27 May), we hear the story of Liz Tantau, whose beloved husband Ian spent his precious final weeks at O'Neill House, an award-winning end-of-life comfort care centre run by VCMH. She’s determined to help people understand the significance of the end-of-life journey.
Our Lady around the World (Part 8): Help of Christians
In the 16th century, as Europe faced the threat of approaching Ottoman naval forces, Pope Pius V called upon Catholics to pray the Rosary and invoke the Blessed Virgin with the title ‘Help of Christians’. We learn about the battle of Lepanto and take a look at a couple of shrines dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians—one of them right here in Australia.
‘You can’t go to the shop and buy courage or persistence or patience of perseverance, or faith or hope or love. You can’t buy those things … [But they are] essential to survive the challenges of our times.’
