Godstart is a post-baptism support program designed to help parents with the early development of their child’s faith.
Baptism is an important event in an infant’s life, signifying the commitment of parents to raise their child within the Church community. Through Baptism not only are we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God—we also become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. Baptism should mark the beginning of an ongoing relationship between a parish and families.
The GodStart program helps parishes to keep in touch with families in the early years before their children enter school. The program enables parishes to take an active role in helping parents teach their child about the love of God. GodStart can also strengthen the ties a parish has with families, assisting in the growth and development of a parish community.
The program is divided into three stages, each centred on the parish remembering the birthdays of their youngest members. A series of beautifully illustrated cards and an interactive prayer book have been developed to present to each baptised child on their first four birthdays.
