Pastoral Worker - Supporting communities of Scoresby and Rowville (St Judes and St Simons)

There is an opportunity for an experienced Pastoral Worker to undertake and contribute to the Pastoral needs of the Supporting communities of Scoresby and Rowville (St Judes and St Simons). This is a full time/ part time (days & times are flexible) role reporting to the Parish Priest. This role will be to build solid relationships and work collaboratively to provide support to the Parish Priest, Parish Team, and parish volunteers.

The successful applicant must be well-motivated to work for the Church and possess a strong commitment to its practices and values. He/she must be able to recognize and respect the pastoral aspect of the Parish and be a practicing and committed Catholic.

Terms and conditions are governed by the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Key Requirements

  • Have the Initiative and a capacity to work with a minimum of supervision
  • The ability to work to timeframes with attention to detail and priorities
  • The ability to have good communication skills with ability to relate to a variety of people
  • Co-operate with colleagues to achieve the implementation of all Parish Policies and procedures;
  • Participates in meetings with staff as required by the Parish Priest.
  • Assist with Liturgical Support for Masses
  • The Ability to Coordinate or conduct visitation to hospitals and Nursing Homes within the Parish;
  • Assist and act as a Special Minister in taking communion to the sick;
  • The Ability to Coordinate or conduct pastoral visitation to homes within the Parish;
  • The Ability to Coordinate and/or conduct the ongoing visitation of the bereaved;
  • Assist and Co-ordinate when required in the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA);
  • Assist and coordinate whilst implementing the catechesis Program for the sacraments, including Baptism, Eucharist and Conformation, including the preparation teams for children not attending Parish Schools, and create communication programs with their families.
  • Assist when required to Work with Parish Liturgical Teams in planning for Sunday Eucharist's and for the liturgical seasons of the year;
  • Assist when required to coordinate marriage preparation programs for engaged couples, and to assist engaged couples in the preparation of their marriage liturgy
  • Provides for the training and formation of liturgical ministries such as lectors, Special Ministers of the Eucharist.
  • Works with youth leaders in developing programs to serve the spiritual, social, and development needs of the youth of the Parish.
  • Have experience in Parish Ministries

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and assist in the process for reporting allegations or concerns of possible abuse, Risk Management and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Ensure compliance with the Catholic Diocese and Parish commitment to best practice in the care and safety of children and vulnerable adults
  • Maintain records in a tidy and readily accessible manner with confidentiality and security
  • Work alongside the Parish Priest and Parish Teams in the administrative aspects of our policies and procedures
  • Identify, report and where appropriate, action risks/hazards in order to eliminate or mitigate against the risk recurring.
  • Observe safe work practices in accordance with training and instruction given and report any risk to the appropriate authority. Risks arising in the workplace may be financial, site, task, or person specific or related to safety.
  • Current Driver’s License

Additional Information

  • Must be able to provide a certificate confirming double COVID vaccination status and maintain COVID vaccination boosters as required.
  • Must apply for a National Police Check or provide a recent Police Check (no more than 3 months old).
  • Must hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check
  • Effective interpersonal, group facilitation, and Pastoral Associate accreditation/or equivalent qualifications for a Pastoral Associate would be desirable
