The Mission group of St Mary’s Thornbury, St Joseph’s Northcote, Holy Spirit Thornbury East, St Anthony’s Alphington are looking for a Pastoral Worker, to work across the four communities.

The successful applicant must be well motivated to work for the Church and possess a strong commitment to its practices and values. He/she must be able to recognize and respect the pastoral aspect of the Parish and be a practicing and committed Catholic.

This part-time position working 2 days per week and is based at 45 Railway Place, Fairfield. Terms and conditions are governed by the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

In this role, you will be responsible for key areas such as (but not limited to):

  • Coordinate and/or conduct pastoral visitation to homes within the Parish;
  • Coordinate and/or conduct a variety of Parish Ministries within the Parish to enhance Weekend Mass and encourage engagement of the community in all aspects of Parish Life
  • Liturgical Support at weekend Masses when required.
  • Coordinate the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program, Sacramental catechesis, liturgies and special liturgical celebrations.
  • Assist when required to coordinate and implement catechesis for the sacraments.
  • Assist when required to Work with Parish Liturgical Teams in planning for Sunday Eucharist’s and for the liturgical seasons of the year;
  • Assist when required with liturgical functions, to lead prayer services and provide other devotional opportunities;
  • Work across the parishes and the 4 schools associated to the parish encouraging school families to feel part of the communities
  • Attend the PLT, Liturgy, Child Safety, Staff meetings regularly.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • The ability to work cooperatively with the group;
  • A capacity to facilitate ministry initiatives using the skills of Parishioners;
  • A capacity to work effectively with volunteers across various Parish ministries;
  • Experience in Parish Ministry;
  • Effective interpersonal, group facilitation, and network skills;

Additional Information

  • Must apply for a National Police Check or provide a recent Police Check (no more than 3 months old).
  • Must hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check
