About the Opportunity

The Proclaim team is at the service of parish communities within the Archdiocese, offering strategies, resources and support for the pastoral needs of parishes and local faith communities; and focusing on the proclamation of the Gospel, faith formation and Christian living delivered with missionary energy.

The Animation Consultant for the Archdiocese of Melbourne focuses on supporting clergy and parish leaders in response to Pope Francis’s call for a "missionary option" (Evangelii Gaudium, §27). This position supports the animation of our Western Region Parishes (spreading geographically from West Melbourne’s inner-city suburbs to Geelong) as they implement initiatives, strategies, resources, and programs to foster Gospel fruitfulness and to form God’s people in discipleship, prayer and action.

About the Role

The Animation Consultant will:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local faith community leaders across an allocated region of the Archdiocese.
  • Assist faith communities (parishes, lay and migrant communities) to discern the movement of the Spirit in their midst and respond with a missionary impulse towards Gospel boldness and fruitfulness
  • Identify, facilitate and/or coordinate programs, processes or structures that support parish missionary renewal.
  • Encourage collaboration between parishes
  • Ensure your work is operationally agile, flexible and responsive in facilitating missionary orientation toward, and in support of, parishes and communities;
  • Contribute as needed to Proclaim: Office for Mission Renewal events, projects and initiatives as they arise.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience (2+ years) within a Parish, Evangelisation or Faith Formation context
  • An extensive understanding of, and commitment to, the teachings of the Catholic Church and a commitment to the philosophy and core values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with proven capability to network, present to, and influence with individuals, community groups and meetings within a faith context.
  • Proficiency in successfully working on collaborative processes and practices that encourage team involvement and input.
  • Commitment to being adaptable and demonstrating flexibility and agility in the workplace. Including willingness to work variable hours according to local community needs (i.e. evenings and weekends).
  • Exceptional resource and time management skills delivering work independently to achieve objectives efficiently and within agreed timelines.

Essential

  • The ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting work priorities due to diverse demands on available work time.
  • Tertiary qualifications (or working towards) in theology, ecclesiology, or a similar relevant discipline.
  • A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is required, this role involves considerable travel to parishes across a broad region of West Melbourne.
  • National Police record check.
  • Working with Children check.
