Life at sea can be hard work, being isolated and away from the comfort of family and friends for weeks and months on end. Seafarers play an important role in the distribution of food and medical supplies to countries around the world, especially places where these are most needed during this time of the pandemic. Throughout the year, Stella Maris Australia provides spiritual, pastoral and practical support to seafarers, and this Sunday (11 July), the Catholic community is being called to pray for and support people who live and work at sea. 🚢

Other stories to catch up on this week include the deeply moving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday celebration that took place at St Patrick's Cathedral last weekend, as well the latest instalment in the Melbourne Catholic "Introduction to the Church Fathers" series.

Plus: Did you know? On this day, 174 years ago, Pope Pius IX appointed Fr James Alipius Goold as the first bishop of Melbourne. Archbishop Comensoli recently visited the James Goold Museum in East Melbourne to view the original altar from Bishop Goold's installation Mass and other significant artefacts from the life of our Archdiocese.
