Parish Secretary, St Brendan's & Holy Rosary Parishes


The parishes in partnership of St. Brendan’s and Holy Rosary have been fortunate over recent years with the services of a wonderful (Administration/Pastoral) team. Looking to the future we would like to welcome a new Parish Team Member.

The successful applicant must be motivated to work for the Church and ideally possess a strong commitment to its practices and values. He/she must be able to recognise and respect the pastoral aspect of a Catholic Parish and an understanding of liturgy/sacraments would be highly advantageous.

This permanent part-time position is based at the Parish Office in Flemington. The role is approximately 18-20 hours per week, with some flexibility with regard to hours/days required to work. Terms and conditions are governed by the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Key Requirements

  • Strong PC skills, in particular Microsoft Office suite of products- PACS, POL, Liturgy Help – (training can be provided)
  • Initiative and a capacity to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Maintain records in a tidy and readily accessible manner
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all records
  • Experience in providing a range of secretarial and office management services
  • Ability to work to timelines with attention to detail and priorities while handling regular interruptions
  • Good communication skills with ability to relate to a variety of people
  • A Team orientated person who is able to work harmoniously with staff and volunteers

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance and support to individuals and families with Sacraments (Baptism, Weddings, Funerals, RCIA, RCIC), through email, telephone and in person enquiries. Take bookings, provide information, complete necessary administration ie. Government paperwork, certificates, forms, lists. Liaise with parish schools and provide support to parish priest where needed
  • Provide support and keep parishioners informed. Share necessary information: drafting emails, weekly bulletin, rosters, phone calls
  • Assist with the organising/coordination of parish events, Feast Days, Morning Teas, Volunteer Dinners etc.
  • Provide direction, support and supervision for Parish Assistant
