Newman College is a co-educational residential College affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Accommodating undergraduate and graduate students from metropolitan and regional Victoria, interstate and overseas (approximately 270).

The College's fundamental purpose is to foster the intellectual, ethical and spiritual life of its members, to enable them to become effective leaders in the community, mature in faith and committed to justice.

About the opportunity

The Facilities and Operations Director will have responsibility for managing and overseeing the daily operations and events of the College, ensuring a high level of service and employee engagement. As a member of the Newman College Senior Leadership Team (SLT) the Director will contribute to the overall welfare of the College, it’s students and staff, maintaining and enhancing the intellectual, ethical and spiritual ethos of the College, with an emphasis on balanced education and all-round excellence.

Key Responsibilities of the role

We are looking for someone that leads from the front and drives a culture of continuous business and process improvement. A values-based Leader who is inclusive and inspiring.

The role requires someone who can:

  • Manage/ lead a multi-functional team, including reception, housekeeping, catering, maintenance and the grounds staff, overseeing all aspects of operations.
  • Responsible for the ICT services and delivery, managing IT (outsourced), ICT infrastructure, hardware and software (licencing), telephony and security cameras.
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team shape the future of the College by participating in the strategic planning process.
  • Mange capital expenditure across feasibility, tendering and delivery; assuring cost, time and quality meet specification.
  • Manage operational performance and costs in line with college objectives.
  • Ensure quality and performance standard indicators are achieved.
  • Lead and support special projects working with internal and external key stakeholders.

About you

  • You will have superior knowledge in Operations and Facilities Management, including a working knowledge of all property onsite facilities services.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, a great people manager with proven ability to successfully lead and mentor teams.
  • Ability to work flexibly including some evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Proficiency in MS365 and IT literacy with sound understanding of databases and/or willingness and desire to learn.
  • Ability to multi-task and work across multiple areas while driving efficiencies.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity, honesty and confidentiality, with an awareness and appreciation of Catholic Social Teaching
